About Us

The Evelyn Freed Mentor Center and California Mentor Foundation are proud to present this new asset P2M, to the mentoring efforts accross the country. The Evelyn Freed Mentor Center was inspired by Evelyn Freed who beleives that every child who wants one, should have a qualified mentor and a "game plan that insures they develop certain competientcies durnig the relationnship". Evelyn has invited the California Mentor Foundation to manage her center's activities and help guide efforts to acheive our mutual goals of building the opportunity to suppot every young person with a "Lifeplan" . The Lifeplan series will help each and every young person to build a "Lifeplan" that their parents, mentors, coaches, teacher, relatives and friends can contribute to. It is our hope that in one generation, every child by the end of high school will have a "Lifeplan". That every one going to college and through life will continue to grow their "Lifeplan" and use it for job applications, reflection, and overall focus in life.

If you do not know where you want to go any portal will do,
If you want to maximize your mentoring experience only the Portal 2 Mentoring (P2M) will do!

The act of mentoring has been identified and practiced since the days of Greek mythology. The art of mentoring is still being refined. The research is clear that quality mentoring programs can support youth in improving academic performance, reducing alcohol and drug use, reducing teen pregnancy and reducing violence. The California Mentor Foundation (CMF) was formed with the vision to create a coordinated and continuously improving mentoring movement in California.

The P2M will be the “one-stop shop,” linking mentoring programs and mentors to resources to enhance their efforts. The P2M will provide content to help mentors plan their time with their mentees, building not only stronger relationships but life skills as well. P2M will help provide what every child needs and what every mentoring organization needs. The major gateways in the portal will escort guests to resources in the areas of:
  • Health
  • Financial Literacy and Career Development
  • Community Service
  • Academic Supports
  • Character Development and Ethics
  • Mentoring
The P2M will be the mechanism by which mentoring programs can manage their mentor matches. Programs will have a single point of entry with which to manage all their contacts, send e-mail to their database, capture information on the impact of the mentoring program with their youth. Programs will be able to generate reports on their program through the P2M database function. Triadigm Technology is taking the lead on developing, implementing and maintaining this function of the P2M.

The P2M will help mentoring programs ensure quality and impact of local mentoring efforts.
  • Measure success by providing mentoring programs assessment tools and conducting surveys of mentoring programs to provide a picture of the impact of mentoring. The survey would be conducted every four years.
  • Use data to improve services, helping local mentoring programs capture information on their program and analyze the data.
  • Prepare and distribute book on mentoring case studies and best practices.
  • Share information, strategies, findings and results in an annual report to the field.
The P2M will highlight the successes of mentoring programs by spotlighting a program a month. Each month a program will be profiled, demonstrating how the focus on quality mentoring practices has provided better services to youth. Individuals will be able to sign up to receive regular information from the CMF P2M. Funding announcement will be promoted on P2M. This growing group of mentor program professionals, mentors and interested parties become a formidable influence when they are mobilized to share their position with policy makers.

The P2M is where the public will come to find a quality mentoring program and where programs will come to enhance their quality. The quality assurance standards of the mentoring field will be promoted through the P2M. Only programs that agree to meet the standards will be promoted on the site.

Local trainings and the statewide summit will be promoted through the P2M. Trainings and open discussions will be conducted using the P2M on a monthly basis. These regular sessions will be facilitated by the latest technology that is accessible through basic internet connectivity. The P2M will provide a venue for mentor program professionals to communicate with each other.

The Statewide mentor summit, planned as a bi-annual gathering, is conducted in partnership with Disney Education Programs in Anaheim. This partnership brings a level of energy and professionalism found nowhere else in the mentoring field. The mentor summit provides the ideal venue for recognition of mentoring programs and share their success with the media.

The P2M will provide an electronic tool kit for mentoring programs to assist them with the best practices in the most critical elements of their mentoring programs. This will include materials on recruitment, training and retention of mentors. Also include information on the managing mentor matches and bringing closure to matches. The electronic tool kit can continually be updated as strategies are improved.

The P2M while initially targeting mentors and mentoring programs, the content will also be available to parents.

Better mentoring is only a click away with P2M!
